Internal Medicine Policy for
Trainee Participation in Educational Activities

PURPOSE To establish a policy by which interns and residents (hereafter all will be referred to as trainees) are given opportunities to participate in Educational Activities at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas.
SCOPE Applies to all interns and residents (hereafter all will be referred to as trainees) in the Internal Medicine training program on the Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas (Texas Health Dallas) campus.
PROVISIONS

1. Educational Opportunities offered by Texas Health Dallas will encourage the traineee to develop a personal program of learning to foster continued professional growth with guidance from the teaching staff.

2. The trainee will be given opportunities to participate in safe, effective, and compassionate patient care, under supervision, commensurate with their level of advancement and responsibility.

3. Full participation in the educational and scholarly activities of the trainee's program will be expected, including satsifactory attendance at educational conferences and participation in at least one research project. Each upper level trainee will be required to assume responsibility for teaching and supervising interns and in some instances medical students and sub-interns (observers).

4. Trainees will be expected to participate on institutional committees and councils whose actions affect their education and/or patient care. The four committees present at Texas Health Dallas are:

  • Graduate Medical Education Committee
  • Ethics Committee
  • Process Improvement Committee for Internal Medicine
  • Clinical Informatics Committee

5. Annually, trainees will be given the opportunity to submit confidential written evaluations of the facutly and of their educational experiences to the program director.
