Policy And Procedure for Eligibility and Selection of Residents in Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas

PURPOSE To define the policy and procedure for eligibility and selection of residents in the Internal Medicine program sponsored by Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas (PHD).
SCOPE Applies to all interns and residents (hereafter all will be referred to as trainees) in the Internal Medicine training program on the Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas campus
ELIGIBILITY:

Applicants with one of the following qualifications are eligible for appointment to PHD residency in Internal Medicine:

  1. Graduates of medical schools in the United States and Canada accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME).
  2. Graduates of colleges of osteopathic medicine in the United States accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).
  3. Graduates of medical schools outside the United States and Canada who meet one of the following qualifications:
    • Have a currently valid certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates or
    • Have a full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a United States licensing jurisdiction
  4. Graduates of medical schools outside the United States who have completed a Fifth Pathway program provided by an LCME-accredited medical school.

 

SELECTION:

The Internal Medicine training program must select from among eligible applicants on the basis of one’s preparedness, ability, aptitude, academic credentials, communication skills, and personal qualities such as motivation and integrity. It must not discriminate with regard to sex, race, age, religion, color, national origin, disability, or veteran status.

Any final candidates must meet the Human Resources Department requirements for new employee, which includes a negative drug screen and satisfactory criminal background check.

The Internal Medicine program sponsored by Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas will participate in the National Resident Matching Program.
